Video Tutorial Is Now Up!

Over the past few days I've been dealing with internet issues (uuugh).  Because of that I was unable to upload a video tutorial, which I had planned to share with you in my last blog post, Paper, Packages and Bows.  I am very happy to say that the issues have finally been resolved!  Over the past few days I've come to realize just how reliant I am on the internet.  Let's just say... it doesn't make life any bit easier.  ;)

Even though I wasn't able to unveil it as originally planned, I'm still thrilled to share my first video right here on my blog!  So please, go check it out (here) and let me know what you think.

Thanks for stopping by!

Paper, Packages and Bows

Thanks for joining me today for this weeks Papertrey Ink Design Team Tip!

Today, I have something special to feature that's perfect for the holiday season.  A fun way to package festive treats or Christmas gifts... A die cut handled bag topper, perfect to place atop a glassine bag, coffee bag or kraft paper lunch sack.

Here's a little trio I've put together for you...
Toppers die cut from some Studio Calico Wonderland pattern paper using the Front & Center #2 Die.

ETA:  Finally able to update this post with a video tutorial.  Yay!  Which has now taken the place of the last minute photo tutorial I originally posted.  When compiling ideas and projects for this blog post my original intention was to show you how-to in person (or as close to "in person" as I could get)... via video.   So here it is...

I tell ya... I'm glad I did it this way.   Just a note:  Keep in mind that the double sided adhesive idea (where I folded the corners to make them easier to remove after placing the handles) works equily well when using Scor-Tape

Here are a few close up shots...
What fun paper this is! I've paired it with the smallest flower in the Year of Flowers: Poinsettia stamp set and a sentiment from the Snowflake Flurries stamp set.  The 1/4" holes fit the pure poppy satin ribbon perfectly.
The second package features a die cut snowflake and a Think Big Favorites #21 sentiment.  This time around I punched two 1/8" holes and threaded twine through twice before tying into a bow.
Last package was actually constructed using a white lunch sack as the base, something I've had in my stash for quite some time.  Embellished the sack with a fun tag using a tree from the Winterberry stamp set and a few embellishments from the Studio Calico Wonderland collection.

Interested in more packaging idea?  I've found a ton of inspiration via Pinterest and I've rounded them up, for you and I to refer to, here.

So go ahead! Give your gifts and packages a little extra special touch this year, no matter what the occasion. And have fun!

Thanks for stopping by.

Handmade Glossy Embellishements

Thanks for joining me today for this weeks Papertrey Ink Design Team Tip!

Who doesn't love a handmade embellishment?! I do! Especially when it involves using my stamps to create handcrafted glossy treasure. Those coordinating die and stamp collections that you have in your crafty stockpiles are perfect for doing just that. Begin by finding the perfect stamp image or die cut, toss in some of Ranger's Glossy Accents and you've got the tools to come up with the perfect addition to any project!

So, let me show you what I'm talking about...
First up, I've paired Beautiful Butterflies with the new Anniversary Set Pretty Peonies and Simply You for this colorful card. Stamped the peonies in a color combo of Summer Sunrise, Spring Moss and Aqua Mist onto a white card base. Then stamped the sentiment on True Black. Here's How: The butterfly was inked up using the Rock-n-Roll stamping technique. Inked it first in Spring Moss, then the left side in Aqua Mist and the right side in Summer Sunrise. Once the ink dried completely I squeezed on a nice layer of Glossy Accents. Here's a Note: Some inks are not suited well for this glossing technique, so put your inks through a test run before applying full glossy coverage. For this butterfly, the colors did end up running together but I liked that it gave the transitioning colors a smoother look. So I went with it! This technique is great for adding a more realistic look. Here I've chosen to use Glossy Accents on the lamp base to give it a polished look. It's also great for mimicking the look of glass, like I did for the vases on these two cards. Here's How: Now, let me begin with how this card started. Using two large Post It Notes, I carefully masked of a top and bottom portion, on a White card base, for perfect placement of the rays. This sun ray image is from the Nativity Silhouettes stamp set.Once the masks were in place I stamped the rays twice, in Lemon Tart ink, and then removed.Die cut and stamped the lamp shade (from the Lighten Up stamp set) in Sweet Blush and the lamp base in Palette Noir (this ink holds up perfectly under the glossy layer). I then gave the base a coating of Glossy Accents, let it dry and then attached all pieces to the card base. Finished the card off with a sentiment and a rhinestone.Lastly, here's a Beautiful Butterflies creation. After finding an inspiration piece on Pinterest here, I went with a luscious color combo of Plum Pudding, Lavender Moon, Berry Sorbet and Ranger Distress Ink in Dried Marigold, all onto a white card base.Finished the card off with a sentiment and frame from Framed Out #1. Gave the frame a heavy coating of Glossy Accents, once dry I wrapped it with a ribbon bow and attached it to the card base with dimensional adhesive. Love, love, love how this turned out! Here's A Few Tip:
  • As I mention previously, you'll want to test your inks out first to see which ones work best, the slow drying process allows some inks to bleed.
  • Make sure your inks are completely dry before applying the Glossy Accents.
  • When applying Glossy Accents... go slowly, keep a constant flow from the bottle and move from one end to the other until your image is completely filled.
  • Use a needle to pop any remaining bubbles.
  • Just about any small to medium stamp image should work just fine, whether you die cut it or hand cut it out.
  • Take a look at your dies... A coat of Glossy Accent looks amazing over a shape simply die cut from color cardstock. (For example, the letters in the photo above. I can't wait to embellish a card with these!)
So go ahead! Pull out your stamp stash and your die collections and see what sort of handmade glossy embellishments are waiting to be put to use on your next creations!

Thanks for stopping by and have fun!

May 2011 PTI Blog Hop

Today is the the day of the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop Challenge, and this months challenge is all about flowers. Thought I would join in on the fun by pulling out my Modern Basics stamp set to create some fun flowers. Here's a card I whipped up just for the challenge...I started by embossing a white card base with the largest of the Turning A New Leaf dies.Next up, I stamped a fun modern flower design using a few of the rounded square images included in Modern Basics. Stamped the largest in Berry Sorbet, medium one in Orange Zest and the smallest in Summer Sunrise. Embellished the centers with rhinestones and mounted them to the card base with dimensional adhesive. Here's How: (1) I started by stamping the linear square 4 times, to form a simple 4 petal flower shape. (2) Then stamped the same 4 petal shape again in the opposite direction. At this point you could add an embellishment to the center and call it done. (3) Or you could take it a step further and finish it off with a solid square stamped within 4 more petals, like I did with the polka dot Summer Sunrise image. Then finish it off with an embellishment of your choice and cut it out.

That's it from me today, be sure to stop by Nichole Heady's blog for all the Blog Hop details and to see what everyone else came up with.
