Recipe Remix

Hello and welcome!  So happy to have you join me on this very special Papertrey Ink Stamp-A-Faire event day!  I truly hope each of you have been enjoying today's festivities!

Many of you Papertrey Ink fans out there have already submitted creations to the "Recipe Remix" event.  Here are the details quoted from Nichole's blog...

"We will have customers post projects that they have created in the past that they felt needed just a *little* something; a project that needs a diagnosis for one reason or another.   Customers should share their projects...  Each DT member will select a project to "remix" to and re-create the project using a bit of a different recipe, making changes that they feel benefit the project while staying true to your original concept."

The card I have chosen to work with was created by Diana.  Check out her adorable card below and on her blog here (in fact... check out her entire blog while you're there, you'll get an eye full of amazing inspiration). While viewing everyone's submission, I couldn't help but be drawn to Diana's card....

Diana's card truly needs no changes; but with her card as inspiration, I knew right away how to "remix" and re-create the project using a bit of a different recipe, yet staying true to her original concept.

Here's my recipe how...

  •  I rotated the card from landscape to portrait.  Not that this improved Diana's design, but this is my favorite orientation for a card.  I felt I could play with the white space a bit easier this way.
  • Diana heat embossed the base/leaf images using green embossing powder.  I chose to stamp the same images using ink (limeade ice) for a cleaner more crisp look.

  •  Using the same Mini Blooms images as on the inspiration, I stamped them pretty much in the same formation.  Take Note:  I had carefully positioned the images so that they overlapped/extended past the edge of the card stock panel.  This simple technique is one that is often overlooked, but it can really make a big difference by extending the eye across the card.  Plus, it adds a little bit of the unexpected.
  • I did use the same color combo as Diana... enchanted evening, lavender moon, sweet blush and green.  Take Note:  However, I did feel this card needed something to ground the design, a strong focal point that could draw the eye in.  I did this by creating a strong visual triangle using three navy flowers (vs. Diana's two).

  • Instead of floating the sentiment in the center of the card I chose to nest it into the small bunch of blooms.  This helped balance it out with the larger bunching above.  Take Note:  By nesting your sentiments as closely to your images it becomes part of the design.
  • Diana's us of diagonally striped pattern paper was spot on, I repeated this look by using Lavender Moon striped pattern paper angled ever so slightly.
  • The perfect finishing touch, as always, rhinestones!

Well, there you have it.  I hope you've enjoyed this "Recipe Remix" and that I've given each and every one of you a few useful tidbits of info.  Also, thank you Diana for such an inspiring original piece and I hope I've made you proud.

Now, head on over to Nichole Heady's blog for all the details about this challenge and be sure to stop by the design team girls' blogs to see their takes on this challenge too!

I hope you've had a wonderfully fun filled Stamp-A-Faire day, so glad you could stop by!

Studio Calico August Kit Release

Hi there! This months Studio Calico kits are great! And so... I've got a lot to share with you. Today I bring you my cards from the Marks & Co kit release.  I've put to use the Marks & Co card kit and the Fitzgerald add on

So let me get started...
I wanted the focus of this card to be the banner.
I used a few shades of aqua markers to color in the different phrases and then added a few pops of yellow around the banner.
A few paint splatters here and there make for a fun card!
I finished the card off with a pattern paper strip and sentiment strips attached at an angle.
This sweet little card is made even sweeter with an adorable stack of ice cream scoops.
As well as some pretty pattern paper and enamel dots to top everything off.
To add a more realistic look to this jar I stamped it onto vellum cardstock.
Layered a few pretty stamped butterflies inside as well as a wood veneer one too. Finished the card with a whimsically place sentiment.

There you have it! Thanks for stopping by and have a super day!

Papertrey Ink August Release Projects

The Papertrey Ink August countdown is about to come to an end and I'm here to share my final projects with you today. But, before I do, let me remind you that everything you've seen peeks of will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink beginning 10 pm EST tonight.

Now, let me get started!...
Mum's the Word by Dawn McVey.  I layered these gorgeous flowers on both the card base and a die cut talking bubble, using HA Cup O' Joe, raspberry fizz and limeade ice.
I finished the card off with a sentiment from Mini Blooms and a couple of pink rhinestones.
Polka Dot Parade #7 by Melissa Bickford.  I stamped this adorably ghoulish ghost repeatedly along a white card base
Then drew focus to just one ghost by stamping a face, bow tie and a talky bubble.
Nuts for You by Heather Nichols.  This sweet squirrel was super fun to paper piece!
I set him at the base of an impressed tree, which was done using the new Mighty Oak Cover Plate.
Boutique Borders: Sympathy by Dawn McVey.
This heartfelt sentiment works beautifully alongside this Basket of Blessings image.
Basket of Blessings by Nichole.  I allowed this gorgeously detailed image to take the show.
I stamped it in the corner and neatly tucked a sentiment along side the filled basket.  Finished the card off with a soft stone button.
Apple Prints by Melissa Bickford.  I took two apples and slightly overlapped them creating a bit of a blended color between the two.
Then finished the card off with a fitting sentiment.  Cute and simple, just the way I like it!

Well, that's all of them!

Be sure to check out the rest of the Design Teams fabulous projects as well...

Thanks for stopping by!

Mighty Oak

Welcome to the final day of the Papertrey Ink August countdown and the second design team group post day. Today's group post is all about the new stamp set Mighty Oak and it's coordinating Cover Plate die.  I just love a versatile stamp set!  The Mighty Oak stamp set is exactly that.  I hope your inspiration folder fills to the brim with useful tips and ideas after today group post.  I know mine will.

Here's what I've got for you today...
First up the inspiration piece, found here.
I knew I wanted to start with a neutral base and kraft cardstock fit the bill perfectly.  I die cut the Mighty Oak Cover Plate die from kraft and used only the tree trunk here.
I then cut the leaves from rustic white cardstock and stamped them in an assortment of autumn colors... summer sunrise, canyon clay and simply chartreuse.  Then attached them randomly to the branches at different heights using dimensional adhesive.
Then finished the card off with a trimmed sentiment, from the same stamp set.
My second piece of inspiration (found here) for an nontraditional use and look for Mighty Oak stamp set.
I stamped medallions using a single leaf image to create this colorful one-layer card.
Hand stamped large and small medallions.  I then finished the card off with a sentiment, stamped in the same position as in the inspiration piece.

Well, that's all I've got for you today. Just remember...  Mighty Oak and it's coordinating Cover Plate die will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning August 15th

Now, be sure to see what the rest of the Papertrey Ink design team has in store for you today...
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Latte Love + Bubble Talk Day Four

Hello and welcome to the fourth day of the Papertrey Ink August countdown and the first Design Team group post. Today's group post is all about showcasing the new Latte Love stamp set and the coffee cozy die collection.  This combination comes just in time for the gift giving season!  Much like myself, I have a bunch of family members who enjoy a cup or two of coffee.  I'm pretty excited about the handmade coffee cozy gift sets I'll be wrapping and gifting this Christmas.
First up, the cozy and whole bean coffee gift set.
Here's a fun way to dress up a coffee bag... after filling and folding over the top, tuck in a few notched banner dies to form a sort of tag.  Either include a "to" and "from" or the name/description of the coffee beans inside.
Here's a shot of the reversible coffee cozy.  A pretty pattern fabric and aqua heart backed with...
aqua felt and embellished with a white felt heart.  The ends leftover from stitching the sides were simply tied into a a bow.  Here's how:  I used iron-on adhesive to attach the fabric to the felt.  The two layers together make assembly slightly more complicated, but the results are worth the effort.  :)
Using the Latte Love stamp set I created this simple yet fun card.
I love the whimsical look the stacked coffee cups add to this card.
Before I finish with today's post, I must share yet another card made using my new Bubble Talk stamp set and coordinating die collection.  This one includes a great color combo of raspberry fizz, orange zest and summer sunrise.
And also includes fun textures such as cork and gold glitter paper.

Well, that concludes my look at Latte Love, Coffee Cozy dies, Bubble Talk and it's coordinating diesJust remember... these stamp sets will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning August 15th

Bubble Talk Day Three

Hi there! Just popping in quickly for day three of the Papertrey Ink countdown to share a few more samples using the latest addition to my Stamping Simply lineup... Bubble Talk.

So, let me get right to it...
Here's a little sample where I've put the coordinating dies to use.  Plus a look at some fun Baker's twine wrapping.  Here's a Tip: To prevent the twine from slipping around I've wrapped a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" cardstock panel with the twine, taped it into place on the backside and then adhered the panel to a card base.
Check out the the pattern paper die cut bubble.  I heat embossed it (using clear embossing powder) with a coordinating image creating a subtle yet neat effect.  The "Hello" is from the Mini Blooms stamp set.
I'll finish things off today with yet another one-layer card.  This one featuring the same twine wrapping as above.
I finished the card off with a birthday sentiment from the Birthday Style stamp set and a rhinestone.

Well, that's all I've got for you today. Just remember... this stamp set and die collection will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning August 15th. In the mean time, I'd love to know what you think so far, so please feel free to share!

Now, be sure to visit Nichole Heady and Ashley Newell for new peeksAlso, Heather NicholsDawn McVeyMelissa Bickford, Lizzie Jones and Erin Lincoln have peeks to share with you of their newest sets and dies for the month.
