Playing With Paint

Thanks for joining me today for this weeks Papertrey Ink Design Team Tip!
Today I'm featuring a not so typical paper crafting medium... metallic acrylic paint.  I've been having fun exploring with a medium I have never used before and I came up with a trio of cards, each one featuring a different way to use this versatile paint.  I hope today's feature leaves you inspired and excited to try something new yourself.
I first tried my hand at the good old dip, dab, and stamp.  It worked quite well.  I just needed to have a gentle hand when loading up with paint. Here's How: Quirt a small amount of paint onto a paper towel, and spread paint out with the handle end of a paint brush.  Dab, dab, dab, your stamp for an even coat, and stamp.
The image dries quickly too!  Important Note: So quickly in fact that you'll need to place your paint covered stamps into a cup of water immediately. But, no worries if the paint dries on your stamps, it comes off with a bit of rubbing under running water.
I love the goopy effect that's acheived with this technique.  Here I've used the yellow gold Martha Stewart craft paint.  The shimmer is divine!
Next, I pulled out my paint brush.  Using a slightly wet paint brush I painted a swash of rose chrome colored paint directly onto a white cardstock panel.
I build up a few layers of paint before stamping/impressing my stamp image into the paint. Here's a Tip: Have your desired stamp image all ready to go, so you can move quickly.  Also, if you mess up you can brush out the mistake with a bit more paint and stamp again.
My last technique of the day simply involves painting your die cuts. Here's a Tip: Play around with the dampness of your paint brush, a wet brush will give you lots of saturation and a dry brush will give you a lighter and carefree look.
I've created a airy dip dyed look by simple painting (with a mostly dry brush) the bottom edge of these die cut So Striking clouds with sterling colored acrylic paint. The sun... yep, it was stamped in ink.

So what do you think?!  You gonna give this one a try?   I sure do hope so! Well, that's it from me today.

Thanks for stopping by.

Vintage Linens

Hello and welcome to day 5 of the Papertrey Ink July countdown!
Hooray!!!  For today's group post we are paying homage to all of the beautiful vintage linens and hankies from an era past.  Vintage Linens is a gorgeous set!  It's easy to work with too! These bold and beautiful flowers and pattern papers make creating an elegant card a cinch. I hope you'll enjoy what I have for you today.

After that, I'll have for you a peek at the next design in my Stamping Simply line up... So Striking!  Hang in there until the end, you won't want to miss it.

Take a look...
Up first, my inspiration piece found here.  I usually prefer to not use another card as a starting point, but these just spoke to me.  Watercolor floral done cleanly and simply.
This is my super simple take.  I used a single sheet from the Vintage Linens paper collection as the card front.
The white on white layers (card on top of envelope) in the inspiration piece inspired my sentiment treatment.
A crisp, clean, and white one layer card are hands down my favorite cards to make. They can be challenging, but with such great inspiration the hardest part for me was the two tone inking technique used. This card is a bit more involved then my first one.
A great color combo of pure poppy, hibiscus burst, new leaf, ripe avocado, and summer sunrise was drawn from the inspiration piece too.
And now this is where I move on to one more sample, featuring So Striking.  I pulled out a pattern paper sheet from the So Striking paper pad and die cut a small cloud opening.
I rocked and rolled the sun into summer sunrise and orange zest inks. Then layered it among the clouds and a sentiment.

Well, that concludes today's look at the new Vintage Linens. Just remember... all that you have seen today will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning July 15th.  More details on these products can be found at the Papertrey Ink blog.

Calling All Bibliophiles

Hello and welcome to day 4 of the Papertrey Ink July countdown!
Today's group post is all about books!  What a great collection of book themed products!  I look forward to surprising my fellow book loving friends and family with project made especially for them.  You're gonna love it all too!
My first card features the use of the Bibliophile stamps & dies and the Fancy Bookends dies.  The books were die cut and assembled from canyon clay, sweet blush and limeade ice cardstock.  The stamping was done in smokey shadow ink as well as the bookend too.
"Happy Birthday" from the previously released Stacked Sentiment tops the card off perfectly.  I touched up the accents with matching Copic makers.
The second card features the Book Cover Card dies and Book Cover Details stamps to create a fairy tale card front.  This sunny scene was stamped using images from the soon to be release So Striking.
The butterfly from the previously released Quilted: Summer stamp set sweetens up this book cover card, making it perfect for celebrating a little girls birthday.
I'll end today's post with a simple card duo featuring So Striking.  Both cards feature a striking image and sentiment, stamped front and center.
Done up in a color combo of harvest gold, summer sunrise and true black.

Well, that concludes today's look at the new Bibliophile stamps & dies, the Fancy Bookends dies, Book Cover Card dies and Book Cover Details stamps. Just remember... all that you have seen today will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning July 15th.  More details on these products can be found at the Papertrey Ink blog.

Weather Trends

Hello and welcome to day 3 of the Papertrey Ink July countdown!
Today is the first group post and it's all about everything weather!  I forsee a rise in temps today.  The weather theme is becoming very hot these days and it's taking over Papertrey Ink for the day.  Here are the new items I'm showcasing today...
  • So Striking pattern paper, stamps and dies
  • Rainy Day Sentiments stamps
  • Sunshine die
Today's theme is one that can surprisingly cover many different occasions.  Check it out!...
First up, a rainy version.  This card design is perfect for either a birthday, graduation or congratulations. Using the Triangle Trio die I die cut triangles from both black cardstock and a sheet of So Striking pattern paper. Then mounted them onto a soft stone card base.
The So Striking pattern paper was made to be layered upon, just like I did here with an extra cloud and lightning bolt.  Makes life a whole lot easier. With the stamp set and die combo "awesome" can either be stamped or die cut, I chose the latter. It gives the card a bit more of a pop when attached with dimensional adhesive.
Here's my sunshine version. Perfect for cheering someone up.
I stamped a few sun rays (from Hello Sunshine) directly onto one of the So Striking pattern paper sheets. Stamped a sentiment from the Rainy Day Sentiments stamp set, attached a die cut "Sunshine" and finished the card off with a strip of gold cardstock along the bottom edge.
A shot of the inside for you, which was embellished with a few So Striking clouds and a Tucked In: Thinking of You sentiment.

Well, that concludes today's look at the So Striking collection, Rainy Day Sentiments stamps, the Sunshine die, and Tucked In: Thinking of You. Just remember... all that you have seen today will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning July 15th.  More details on these products can be found at the Papertrey Ink blog.

Triangle Trio dies & Perfect Pairing, plus So Striking

Hi there! Welcome back for day two of the July Papertrey Ink countdown.
I am so excited about today's feature!  Today I bring you a look at one of Dawn McVey's new sets, Perfect Pairing... A versatile new sentiment set with a bold modern look that will really become a classic. The clever phrases cover nearly any occasion you can think of! I've also put to use the new Triangle Trio Die.  Snuck in a bit of the So Striking stamps and pattern paper too.

Check it out...
First up, a fun sheet of pattern paper from the So Striking paper pad as the base.
Next I layered the first of the Triangle Trio die cuts, cut from true black cardstock, shown above.
The largest Triangle Trio die cut was stamped with three of the sentiments included in the Perfect Pairing stamp set and then layered onto the card base with dimensional adhesive.
I layered the third triangle shape to help emphasize the "Hooray!" Perfect Pairing sentiment.
The triangles were die cut from aqua mist stripe pattern paper, true black card stock, and a lightning pattern paper sheet from the So Striking pattern paper. Using my paint brush I touched up the lighting paper with a few strokes of silver acrylic paint.
I pulled out my previously released Southwestern Style to create this celebratory little number.  I stamped these trendy border images onto a white card base in a color combo of melon berry, orange zest and soft stone around a Perfect Pairing sentiment
I then carefully stamped the sentiment again onto a Triangle Trio die cut and layered it on the card base.
Well, that concludes today's look at Perfect PairingTriangle Trio Die, and So Striking. Just remember... all that you have seen today will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning July 15th

So Striking

Hi there! Welcome to day one of the July Papertrey Ink countdown.
I am so excited about today feature!  Today I bring you a peak at the next designs in my Stamping Simply line up.  Let me introduce you to the So Striking Collection! This coordinating line up consists of...

  • So Striking stamp set
  • So Striking die
  • So Striking paper collection

Check it out...
I let the pattern paper take the show today.  I bring you a look at two of the sheet included in the So Striking paper collection.
This cloud design is enhanced with a tiny bit of stamping.  The sun, sentiment and rain drops (the image turned on its side) were layered to create a perfectly detailed one layer card.
No stamping involved here.  I just trimmed the bottom edge of the "...people who smile..." pattern paper to reveal a bit of the black cardstock underneath.
To finish the card off I simply tied a black baker's twine bow and stapled it into place.

Well, that concludes today's look at the So Striking Collection. Just remember... all that you have seen today will be available for purchase through Papertrey Ink, beginning July 15th. Stay tuned, I'll be bringing you many more peeks of my new line up as the PTI countdown continues.
